I want to take a moment and call upon the seven directions before I go on. * Close eyes * Right hand on heart * Left hand on stomach * Breathe deep * I call upon mother north — the soil, the roots, the grass, the trees, the plants, and the flowers. I call upon the winds of the east — the element of air, change, spirit, and vapor. I call upon the burning flames of the south — our inner fire, passions, desires, creation, and destruction. I call upon the waters of the west — nourishing, cleansing, renewing, and purifying water. I call upon all that is above me, all that is below me, and all that is within me. I call upon Toypurina, medicine woman and leader of the San Gabriel Mission rebellion.
